XVI edition of the History of Law Meetings: Printing and Iconology as Legal-Historical Sources

The Ius Commune – Interinstitutional Group on The History of Legal Culture, invites everyone to participate in the XVI edition of the Meetings of History of Law, which will take place in Florianópolis, from 10 to 13 June. The event will be attended by Professor Georges Martyn of the University of Gent. The theme will be “Printing and Iconology as Legal-Historical Sources”, and will deal with iconology and iconography in the legal environment. The event will also feature papers and will grant a certificate of participation to those who attend at least 75% of the event.

The event aims to describe and analyze the emergence and development of the press and the use of art as vehicles for the communication of law developed in western legal history and how Brazil is situated in this itinerary. To this end, it will have a conference of professors who are experts on the subject, followed by discussions with scholars of the issue, consolidated by debate and synthesis of ideas; it will also feature academic papers to encourage and disseminate the production of this specific approach to the history of law. As a result, it is expected to understand how press and art found their roles in legal cultures of late literacy such as the Brazilian in comparative perspective.
